A community-run local library near Spalding, Lincolnshire, has been refurbished using Crittall Corporate W20 windows in a design tailored to harmonise with the vernacular architecture.

Pinchbeck Library is housed in what was originally built as a village primary school which then served as an adult education centre. Taken over by the parish council in 2015 the building now serves as a well-stocked library run by volunteers.

Replacement windows were installed in 2020 by Orchard Building Contractors of Stamford.  Original single glazed timber and steel framed windows were replaced with double glazed W20sinstalled within the original apertures in the brickwork. A mix of bespoke designs was required, some with curved heads.  All were finished in Crittall white.

The hallmark of a Crittall window is the slender steel frame that is so much slimmer – and therefore admits so much more light – than the alternative window systems that use PVCu, timber or aluminium.   All these alternatives require significantly larger profiles due to the basic differences in the frame material and their relative strengths
